Calling all elementary school teachers, home school parents, naturalists and others! Come celebrate Earth Day in the beautiful Mt. Adams country while learning new ways to engage students in the natural world.
Explore science concepts through art, children's literature and field study. Learn exciting ecology information from experts in the fields of Salmon and Sandhill Crane migration, Tree Ecology and Earth Education. Generate new ideas that engage children with the natural world.
The workshop will take place at the Mt. Adams Center in Trout Lake, Washington. Field trip transportation will be provided.
Who should attend?

Elementary school teachers interested in learning new nature based activities that focus on science and literature (12.5 Washington Teacher Clock Hours and Oregon Teacher Professional Development Units available).

Tree Ecology and Salmon Cycle/Migration with a field trip to Spring Creek Hatchery.
Sunday
8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Sandhill Crane Migration with a field trip to Conboy Lake Wildlife Refuge and Earth Education/Celebrations.

Objectives

Learn new curriculum and activities which support art, literature and science GLEs for student learning goals.

Participate in art activities (no talent necessary) which enhance and enrich understanding of scientific concepts for children.

Understand the proper way to plant a tree so that you and your students or family can celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree (receive free tree seedlings for your class or family).

Workshop Highlights
- Tour the Spring Creek Hatchery to learn about salmon ecology in the Pacific Northwest.
- Explore the Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge and observe the Sandhill Crane migration (and hopefully, spot a Bald Eagle at its nest).
- Learn different activities for getting children to look closely at and interact with nature on a personal and multi-sensory level.
