SUMMER RIVER JOURNEY
Join us for an eight-day aquatic odyssey down the scenic, cliff-lined John Day River. On your journey, you’ll explore Oregon’s colorful high desert with fellow teen travelers, hone water travel skills that you’ll never lose, become comfortable living in the wilderness and dive into some serious summer fun.
Your eight days will begin in Trout Lake, Washington with a breathtaking view of Mt. Adams. You’ll then trade the 12,276 ft. mountain for cool, swirling, blue swimming holes, inviting river banks for camping, and the bright summer sun glinting off the water’s edge. Covering ground in kayaks will become second nature after three days of paddling, swimming and floating accompanied by hikes into the surrounding shrub-steppe hills. You'll gain an even better view of the surrounding land through a full day of world-class climbing at Smith Rocks.
Throughout the journey you’ll practice “Leave No Trace” camping and wilderness living skills and you’ll ‘pay rent’ through two days of environmental river service projects to restore impacted wilderness areas. You’ll discover the rich rewards of service by helping preserve and protect the scenic waterway.
